June - Wrap Up and July To Be Read

June's over, Summer Solstice is over, Midsummers day has been and gone and I've been 30 for just shy of a week!

We're no heading into our 7th month of the year which means it's time for my June Wrap Up and what I plan to read for July.

June - Wrap Up
So at the start if June I gave myself quite the hefty TBR list:
⭐ Escaping From Houdini
⭐ Capturing the Devil
⭐ Crescent City
⭐ Slayer
⭐ Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets
⭐ The Girl the Sea Gave Back
⭐ The Witcher: The Last Wish

Through out the month of June I've managed to read 9 books this month and 4 from my TBR list. After I finished Crescent City, I hit the biggest reading slump and tried to read at least one or 2 chapters from the final 4 books on my list, and none of them held my attention, the only one that did was Harry Potter and even that took me a while to finish it!
The books I read were as follows:

📚 Escaping From Houdini by Kerri Maniscalco (19.04.2020-02.06.2020) ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
As you can see from my start and finish date, it took me a good while to complete and get into this book. But once I did get into the book I really enjoyed it, even if I guessed the villain early on and was proven correct.

📚 Capturing the Devil by Kerri Maniscalco (02.06.2020-06.06.2020) ⭐⭐⭐⭐.5
I'm impressed with myself for completing this series, it's taken me at least 3 years, but I've done it in the space of 3 months! I set myself the goal of finishing it by the end of June, and I hit my goal which I'm happy about.
I enjoyed this book and ultimately the series. I had an inkling early on in the series about who the villain was and I was correct, but that didnt take away from how well this story and the series as a whole is written and presented and weaves the history through it.

📚 Crescent City by Sarah J.Maas (06.06.2020-14.06.2020) ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ If I could give this more I would!
Sarah J.Maas has done it again!
This is my Best Read of 2020. It blends modern, with fantasy superbly and a murder mystery on top of that, is a major win in my book.
The characters draw you in and the story was gripping and emotional at time.

📚 Shy Queen In The Royal Spotlight by Natalie Anderson (15.06.2020-15.06.2020) ⭐⭐⭐
A perfectly enjoyable Mills and Boon read, to help get me out of my reading slump caused by Crescent City!

📚 Beauty and Her One Night Baby by Dani Collins (16.06.2020-16.06.2020) ⭐⭐.5
This was an ok read, byt the writing and pacing felt slow, not necessarily one I'd reread.

📚 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (18.06.2020-30.06.2020) ⭐⭐⭐⭐
Its been a good while since I reread The Chamber of Secrets and for me, I always felt like it was the weakest book of the 7, and I still stand by that view. I enjoyed it, but not as much as the others.

📚 A Baby to Bind His Innocent by Michelle Smart (25.06.2020-25.06.2020) ⭐⭐⭐
This was an enjoyable read, well paced and the story intriguing.

📚 Vows to Save His Crown by Kate Hewitt (26.06.2020-27.06.2020) ⭐⭐.5
This was an ok read, I just didnt feel connected to the characters.

📚 A Forbidden Night With The Housekeeper by Heidi Rice (28.06.2020-29.06.2020) ⭐⭐⭐
This was an enjoyable read, may not be a reread book, but it was a nice story.

July - To Be Read
After June's reading slump, I'm going to try and be a bit more realistic with only 4 books on the main TBR!
The books I've chosen are as follows:
❤ Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. I've heard pretty good reviews about this book, and I'm trying to finish all of her books, after this I'll only have one left!
❤ Izzy and Tristan by Sharon Dunlop. This is a contemporary retelling of the Tristan and Isolde tale, which is one of my favourites, and I'm trying to get through a chunk of my contemporary stories this year!
❤ Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban. As with last month, this is the continuation of my 1 Harry Potter book reread a month.
❤ How Do You Like Me Now? By Holly Bourne. This is another contemporary story and I also have quite a lot of unread Holly Bourne books on my shelf that I'm trying to get through.

So that's my June Wrap Up and my July TBR.
What have you read through June, and what do you plan to read in July?

I hope you're all staying well and safe.

Vanessa
